Integration with Epic EHR
Connecting Patient Records

Discover how Biomarks.ai integrates with Epic EHR to import patient records and send clinician-approved AI assessment summaries to patient charts.

Connecting AI-Powered Health Assessments with Patient Records

Streamline patient onboarding, clinical assessments and health record management with the Biomarks.ai and Epic EHR integration.

Biomarks.ai has successfully completed its initial integration testing with Epic, one of the world’s leading Electronic Health Record (EHR) platforms. This integration is designed to help healthcare professionals connect their existing patient records with Biomarks.ai’s AI-powered health assessment platform.

Through the Biomarks EHR Gateway, clinicians can securely authenticate with Epic, retrieve authorized patient information, import patients into Biomarks.ai and send clinician-approved assessment summaries back to the patient’s Epic record. The core integration workflow has been successfully validated in Epic’s sandbox environment, with production deployment and authorization still to follow.

How Biomarks.ai Integrates with Epic

The integration connects Epic’s electronic health records with Biomarks.ai’s clinical assessment and AI health intelligence capabilities. Rather than requiring clinicians to manually recreate patient profiles or transfer assessment information between systems, the integration is designed to provide a more efficient workflow for managing patients and their assessment results.

1. Secure Clinician Authentication

Healthcare professionals connect to Epic through the Biomarks EHR Gateway using the supported clinician authentication process. Successful sandbox testing has confirmed that clinicians can authenticate, access sample patient records and retrieve patient information through the gateway.

2. Patient Matching and Importing

Once connected, clinicians can identify patients in Epic, review potential matches against existing Biomarks.ai records and import patient information into Biomarks.ai.

Patient importing has been successfully tested, allowing clinicians to:

  • Retrieve authorized patient information from Epic.

  • Match Epic patients with existing Biomarks.ai records.

  • Review patient matches before importing.

  • Identify and prevent duplicate patient records.

  • Import patients into Biomarks.ai for assessment management.

The next development phase will simplify onboarding by allowing clinicians to select and import authorized groups of patients, subject to access to an appropriate patient list from their EHR.

3. AI-Powered Health Assessments

Once patients are available in Biomarks.ai, healthcare professionals can use the platform to manage clinical assessments, questionnaires and patient-reported health information. Biomarks.ai provides pre-built assessment templates for a wide range of healthcare disciplines, alongside tools for creating customized assessments. The platform supports structured assessment responses, scoring and AI-generated summaries that clinicians can review as part of their clinical workflow.

4. Clinician Review and Approval

Before assessment information is transferred to Epic, clinicians can review the assessment results and AI-generated summary. This clinician-controlled workflow is designed to ensure that assessment information is reviewed before being added to the patient’s EHR. Clinicians retain responsibility for determining whether an assessment summary is appropriate for inclusion in the patient’s medical record.

5. Sending Assessment Results to Epic

Biomarks.ai has successfully tested the ability to write assessment information back to Epic.

During sandbox testing, the integration:

  • Generated assessment results and an AI summary.

  • Saved the information as a preliminary clinical note in a test patient’s Epic chart.

  • Successfully retrieved the saved note from Epic.

  • Validated duplicate prevention and permission/consent checks.

This demonstrates the technical capability to transfer assessment information from Biomarks.ai into an Epic patient record. The tested workflow uses a preliminary clinical note rather than writing individual assessment scores into separate structured EHR fields.

Connected Patient Assessment Workflow

This workflow is designed to reduce the need for clinicians to switch between disconnected systems or manually transfer clinical assessment documents.

It also provides a foundation for onboarding authorized patient groups, making Biomarks.ai more practical for clinics managing larger patient populations.

Benefits for Healthcare Professionals and Clinics

Reduce Manual Patient Administration –  Import patient information from Epic into Biomarks.ai rather than manually creating patient profiles, helping reduce duplicate data entry and administrative effort.

Connect Clinical Assessments with Existing Patient Records – Bring assessment results and clinician-approved AI summaries into the patient’s Epic chart, supporting a more connected clinical workflow.

Support Consistent Clinical Documentation – Use pre-built assessment templates and structured questionnaires to standardize how patient information is collected, evaluated and summarized.

Maintain Clinician Oversight – Clinicians review and approve assessment summaries before they are transferred to Epic, helping ensure that AI-generated information remains subject to professional judgment.

Support Patient Data Integrity – Patient matching, duplicate detection and permission/consent checks help support responsible patient record management across the two platforms.

Supporting Better Connected Healthcare

Biomarks.ai is building an AI-powered health intelligence platform that complements existing clinical systems rather than replacing them.

Our Epic integration is an important step toward enabling healthcare professionals to combine existing patient records with structured health assessments, AI-generated clinical insights and more efficient documentation workflows.

By connecting clinical assessments with established EHR platforms, Biomarks.ai aims to help healthcare providers spend less time transferring information between systems and more time reviewing patient health information and supporting informed care decisions.
